Operation Praying Mantis
Presentation

25 April 2018, 6:30 – 8 PM

On 18 April 1988, the largest naval battle since World War II was fought in
the Persian Gulf between the US Navy and the Navy of Iran. Responding to a mine attack on a US warship four days earlier, the US targeted Iranian surveillance platforms and surface ships in a one day series of engagements that resulted in a significant reduction in the size of the Iranian Navy. During the battle, dubbed “Operation Praying Mantis,” one of the engaged US Navy ships
was commanded by DWO resident Jim McTigue who will provide
a first-hand account of the action on 25 April 2018, in conjunction
with the 30th anniversary of the event. Jim originally planned to
give the presentation on 18 April, the actual 30th anniversary, but
had to postpone it a week when he found out that his former
shipmates are celebrating with a reunion in Rhode Island on that
date.

Please come and join us for this unique presentation
which is sponsored by the Vets 4 Vets Club and is free of charge
to the DWO Community. Thank you!
